Burlington-Bristol Bridge Temporarily Closed After Five-Car Crash

A serious five-car accident has led to the temporary closure of the Burlington-Bristol Bridge, which connects Burlington, New Jersey, and Bristol, Pennsylvania.

The crash, which occurred earlier today, resulted in significant traffic disruption and a large emergency response. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, though witnesses reported abrupt traffic slowdowns and wet road conditions may have contributed.

Emergency crews, including police, fire, and EMS, responded quickly to the scene. At least three people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, while others were treated on-site. Several lanes of the bridge were closed to allow for emergency operations and safety inspections.

The Burlington County Bridge Commission and local authorities are investigating the incident and have yet to confirm when the bridge will reopen. The bridge serves as a crucial commuter route between southern New Jersey and southeastern Pennsylvania.

Its closure has caused significant delays, with traffic backed up for miles and nearby roadways congested. Businesses in the surrounding areas have also reported disruptions due to detours. Alternative routes like the Tacony-Palmyra and Route 1 bridges are recommended.

Motorists expressed frustration but also acknowledged the importance of ensuring safety in the wake of such a collision. Some drivers reported being stranded for over an hour.

Officials are urging the public to drive cautiously, especially in wet conditions, and to maintain safe distances on heavily used routes like the Burlington-Bristol Bridge.

Clean-up and safety evaluations are ongoing, and the timeline for reopening remains unclear. Officials advise drivers to monitor traffic updates and local news for developments. The community has expressed gratitude for the swift and professional response by emergency services.
